CCS IS NOW A CARBON NEUTRAL BUSINESS

Due to our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we have become a carbon neutral business.

In our current economy, operating with zero emissions is unrealistic for most individuals and businesses. At CCS, we have always been proactive in our approach to running an ethical and environmentally conscious business, through initiatives like installing solar panels, and responsibly recycling our waste. However, there will always be unavoidable emissions as part of existing business processes, at least for the foreseeable future.

That is why we have taken the proactive approach of entering the voluntary carbon offset market, to become a carbon-neutral company.

WHAT DOES CARBON NEUTRAL MEAN?

Being a carbon neutral company means that we have purchased enough carbon credits to offset our carbon emissions for the year. Moving forward, we will be conducting annual audits to continue to retain our carbon neutral status.

HOW DID YOU MEASURE YOUR CARBON EMISSIONS?

We enlisted the help of the Carbon Reduction Institute to conduct an audit of our annual emissions. Their audit was tailored specifically for our unique manufacturing business, and within a few weeks, we were able to know what our annual energy output was, understood in greater depth what our energy breakdown looked like, and figure of how many tonnes of CO2 we would need to offset through the purchase of carbon credits.

WHAT ARE CARBON CREDITS? WHAT DO THEY DO?

Carbon Credits are verified emissions reduction certificates issued from registered climate projects. These projects can assist with removing, reducing, or avoiding GHG emissions. Examples of typical climate projects include building renewable energy infrastructure, re-foresting land, increasing biodiversity, and commitments to not deforest land.

In addition to the GHG emission reduction benefits, these climate projects can have many additional benefits such as stimulating the local economy, providing local jobs, increasing biodiversity, and more.

WHAT CARBON OFFSET PROJECT HAVE WE INVESTED IN?

Our carbon offset project is a wind energy project based in India.

WHY IS THIS PROJECT IMPORTANT?

The population of India is currently 1 Billion. They are heavily reliant on coal for their energy needs. This had led to highly polluted air, as well as large-scale environmental degradation. Many of the world’s most polluted cities are currently located in India. For millions of people, the toxic air makes life unbearable.

Clean energy projects based in India are important because they provide an alternative energy source that helps to ease the reliance on coal. In addition to cleaner air, the benefits for local employment through this project are also important, as the facilities will need to be built and maintained for the years to come.

WHY INDIA?

Climate change is an issue that affects us all globally. It does not matter where our carbon offset project is based, as long as it is offsetting our carbon emissions. We chose this India wind project, as this was a project that was aligned with our preference for renewable energy projects located in the Global South.

WHY WIND?

We had a preference for supporting clean energy projects, as they support the low carbon economy, and provide long term solutions to the climate crisis, by nature of their long lasting infrastructure.

Our project is certified to the VCS (Verified Carbon Standard), which is one of the highest international standards available for carbon projects.

HOW CAN THIS HELP YOU?

If your packaging is manufactured with CCS, we can put a label on your packaging so that consumers know that your packaging is carbon neutral.
